ANISE
BREAD RECIPE
This recipe
will teach you how to make Anise Bread. It is a quick and
easy recipe to make. Anise
Bread is a wonderful sweet bread to enjoy with a cup of coffee.
The flavours of anise seeds and lemon in the bread recipe
makes the taste fantastic.

Bread Ingredients
1 packet active dry yeast
2 cups flour sifted
1/3 cup butter
2 tsp anise seeds
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 egg slightly beaten
1 tsp shredded lemon peel
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
2 Tbs lemon juice
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 Tbs cream
dash salt

Bread Method
Combine
the 1/2 cup flour, yeast and anise seeds in a large mixing
bowl. In a large saucepan heat milk, butter, sugar and salt
until just warm and stir till it melts. To the flour mixture
add the heated liquid. Then add the egg, lemon peel and juice
for 1/2 minute on low speed scraping sides constantly. Then
beat 3 minutes on high speed. By hand stir in the remaining
flour till it is a soft dough. Put the dough on a floured
board and knead for 10 minutes until its smooth and elastic,
then place in a lightly greased bowl turning over to grease
it all over then let it rise in a warm place for 2 hours.
After 2 hours punch down the dough and let rest for 10 minutes.
Shape the dough into a round loaf and cover it and let rise
until it has doubled in size around 45 minutes. In a greased
pan place the dough and bake the Anise Bread for 35 to 40
minutes in a preheated oven at 375 degrees until done. In
a bowl stir in the icing sugar, cream, vanilla and salt until
it is smooth and spread it over the top of the warm bread.
