HOT
CROSS BUNS RECIPE
This recipe
will teach you how to make Hot Cross Buns. It is a quick and
easy recipe to make. Hot
Cross Buns are wonderful tasting buns and I love making them
at easter. These buns look just like most buns except for
the cross on top but for some reason the taste is different
and my family always seem to love the Hot Cross Buns better
than any other bun.
Hot Cross
Buns Ingredients
Icing
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1 Tbs water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup hot milk
1 cup currants
1 egg well beaten
3/4 tsp cinnamon
4 cups sifted flour
1 cake compressed yeast
Hot Cross
Buns Method
Pour
the hot milk over the butter, sugar and salt then let cool
to lukewarm. Add the crumbled yeast and let rest for 5 minutes.
Add the egg, flour and cinnamon to make a soft dough and then
fold in the currants and let rise in a warm place until double
in bulk about 2 hours. Shape into large buns and place an
inch apart on a buttered baking sheet. Let rise in a warm
place until double in bulk about 1 hour. Brush tops of buns
with 1 egg slightly beaten with 1 tablespoon of water. Bake
in a preheated 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. When cool decorate
top of each bun with a cross using the following icing.
Place 1/2 egg white in a small mixing bowl. Using a wooden
spoon beat in as much icing sugar as the egg white will absorb
and add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice gradually as the mixture
thickens. Make a cross at once on top of the buns as this
mixture hardens quickly.
Enjoy your freshly made Hot
Cross Buns!
