IRISH SODA BREAD RECIPE

This recipe will teach you how to make Irish Soda Bread. It is a quick and easy recipe to make. My family and I love this bread recipe with just about anything. But I really love it with butter and jam on it but my grandchildren love it with butter and vegemite on it hot out of the oven.

Irish Soda Bread Ingredients

2 tsp salt
2 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup rolled oats
2 Tbs white vinegar
4 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup all purpose white flour

Irish Soda Bread Method

First thing to do preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl put the milk and stir in the vinegar and mix to make the milk sour then set aside. In a large mixing bowl mix together the whole wheat flour, white flour, oats, baking soda and salt. Add the soured mixture to the flour mixture and stir until all the dry ingredients are moistened. Place the dough on a floured board and lightly knead about ten times until the dough is smooth. Form the dough into a 9 inch round loaf, place it on a cookie sheet and with a sharp knife mark the top of the Irish Soda Bread with an X cutting the dough about 1/8 inch deep. Bake the Irish Soda Bread for 50 to 60 minutes or until the bread is brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Cool and serve.

Enjoy your freshly made Irish Soda Bread!
