PEA AND HAM SOUP RECIPE

This recipe
will teach you how to make Pea and Ham Soup. It is a quick
and easy recipe to make.
My grandmother and my mother use to always make Pea and Ham
Soup and we use to sit around the fireplace eating it with
freshly cooked bread rolls. I make it now and my daughters
all make it for their families. There is nothing better than
the smell of Pea and Ham Soup and bread rolls cooking. My
husband always knows by the aroma going through our house
when he arrives home that we are having Pea and Ham Soup with
fresh bread rolls. We relax in front of the fireplace and
have our soup and rolls just like my parents before us did.
Pea
and Ham Soup Ingredients
4 litres water
500g bacon bones
4 stalks celery chopped
4 onions finely chopped
750g dried split peas rinsed
freshly ground black pepper
4 Tbs chopped celery leaves
250g ham cut into 1cm cubes
Pea and
Ham Soup Method
Using a large heavy based saucepan
add the split peas and water then set aside overnight. Next
morning add the bacon bones to the saucepan with the split
peas and bring it to the boil then turn down the heat and
let simmer for 2 hours or until soup thickens. Add the onion,
celery leaves and celery and cook for a further 20 minutes
over low heat. Take the bacon bones out of the soup and discard
then add ham and cook until heated through then season the
Pea and Ham Soup to taste with pepper. Serve the soup into
soup bowls and have with fresh bread rolls.

POTATO
AND BACON CHOWDER RECIPE
This
recipe will teach you how to make Potato and Bacon Chowder.
It is a quick and easy recipe to make.
What a wonderful mixture
of bacon, onions, celery, thyme, chicken stock, potatoes,
sour cream, fresh parsley and fresh chives that goes into
making the most magnificent Potato and Bacon Chowder. This
recipe was a favourite of my old grandmothers when all the
family got together for a meal she use to cook the biggest
pot of Potato and Bacon Chowder up and then my mother use
to cook it and now I cook it when all my family are coming
home for a meal the taste and aroma is so good when it is
cooking.
Potato and Bacon Chowder Ingredients
2 Tbs flour
30g butter
300g sour cream
2 tsp dried thyme
250g bacon chopped
1.5 litres chicken stock
2 large onions chopped
2 large potatoes cubed
4 stalks celery chopped
2 Tbs snipped fresh chives
3 Tbs chopped fresh parsley

and Bacon Chowder Method
In a large heavy based saucepan
add the bacon and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until
the bacon is golden and crisp. Take the bacon out of the saucepan
and drain on absorbent kitchen paper. Add the butter to the
saucepan and melt then add onions, celery and thyme and cook
over low heat for 4 minutes or until onion is soft then return
bacon to the pan and stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Take
the pan off the heat and slowly add the stock then bring it
to the boil and reduce the heat. Add potatoes and cook for
further 10 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Take
the saucepan off the heat and stir in the sour cream and parsley
then put it back on the heat and cook without boiling stirring
constantly for 2 minutes. Serve the Potato and Bacon Chowder
into bowls and sprinkle with chives and serve straight away.
